Museum Associate

Position Title: Museum Associate
Department: Visitor Services
Reports to: Assigned role Director
Salary: hourly non-exempt $16-$18 per hour
Full Time/Part Time: Part Time 25 hrs per week,

Position Summary:
The Museum Associate is a cross trained position, acting as an important part of the visitor experience at the Cradle of Aviation Museum. The ideal candidate should be well rounded and organized; must possess excellent communicative, interpersonal, and computer skills, with the ability to juggle multiple and diverse assignments. They will have experience working in a cultural institution, or proven success in a customer service role. Areas of cross training include theater, store, events, facilities, box office, and education. Cross training will give the associate flexibility, versatility and growth potential. Museum Associates are the primary team members who first greet and welcome all visitors, setting the stage for the guests experience, providing accurate event information, selling admissions at the box office, merchandise in the store, conducting educational demos, helping with museum events, directing guests and answering general inquiries. They are the jack of all trades for the guest experience.

Essential Functions:
Directly interact with the public, providing exceptional customer service including general museum Information, policies and procedures
Demonstrate knowledge of museum offerings and programs.
Working in agreed upon and assigned roles for shift. Areas may cover:

  • Theater Check in, seating & show run
  • Store or box office sale
  • Educational demonstrations or programs as prepared/trained for
  • Information/security booth answering questions, directing people, open or lock up bldg. doors
  • Event & Facility assistance: setup/breakdown of tables, chairs, pipe and drape, turn bldg.. lights on off

Assist with check-in and admissions at public programs
Be able to run basic ticket & merchandise sales in the POS system Altru
Transact sales and handling of money accurately, and efficiently if covering store or box office for shift
Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications/Education:
Strong customer service skills required; ability to make each visitor feel welcome
Strong team player with great communication skills
Comfort with technology required; experience with point-of-sale systems desired
Ability to multitask, trouble shoot and prioritize required
Experience with retail sales and/or store operations desired but not required
Weekend, evenings and holiday work required as museum events dictate
Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment, but also take supervisors direction
Minimum High School diploma

Physical Demands/Work Environment:
The work environment for this position is a typical museum setting with periods of standing, sitting, lifting and working at a computer. This position requires climbing ladders for events, and lifting of boxes (average 30lbs) for programs, events or merchandise etc.
