Aircraft Identification - Friend or Foe?

Virtual Museum | Galleries & Exhibits Home | World War Two

During World War Two it was critical that pilots and anti-aircraft gunners be able to quickly identify many types of aircraft, and at great distances. This was necessary so that they would be able to fire first, and only at enemy aircraft. Thus a wide variety of posters, charts and identification cards with aircraft silhouettes were produced for use by both the armed forces and civilian spotters.
