STEM Career Expo

Since 2012, the museum has held its Annual STEM Career Expo, open to all Long Island schools; the purpose of which is to expose as many 10th and 11th-grade students to the various careers and applications in STEM disciplines especially here on Long Island. Exhibitors, professionals, and local colleges feature their careers, conduct hands-on demonstrations, and showcase real-world applications of STEM. We have industry representatives from companies like Brookhaven National Lab and Jet Blue along with local colleges such as Farmingdale State College and Dowling College and others. A sampling of Long Island career sectors represented are Healthcare, Aerospace, Engineering, Renewable Energy, Manufacturing, Homeland Security, Information Technology and Communications, and Aviation.

2020 has certainly changed the way in which we can connect with one another. Traditionally, the Cradle would host its annual STEM Expo in the fall. Sadly, to maintain the health and safety of both students and industry leaders, the Museum made the difficult choice to forgo its in-person experience. Although the climate has changed, the need for support of students in the STEM fields remains as he or she navigates future higher education and career pathways. Our corporate partners have partnered to bring a small series of videos (some from their own homes) to help students gain an understanding of real-world skills, make connections between academics and business, and learn about the workforce.

Please listen, share, and celebrate the diversity of businesses that make our region!
