HEALTH & SAFETY FIRST

The Cradle of Aviation Museum is excited to welcome guests back and has planned extensively to do so.

We are attentive to the local, state, and federal guidelines that govern our reopening policies and procedures and we will continue to watch and evaluate those on a daily basis; proceeding slowly and adjusting as necessary.

We will be taking a conservative approach to return to our normal services, placing the health and safety of our visitors, employees, and community above all else.

REDUCED SERVICES AND OPERATING ON A REDUCED SCHEDULE

Here’s what you can expect, as we begin to ramp up our museum offerings:

  • The museum has closed off, redesigned, or removed some hands-on exhibit interactives.
  • The museum will be operating on a limited schedule, and some of our facilities will be temporarily closed for a time.
  • The museum's new operating hours are Thursday – Sunday 10 am-4 pm.
  • Museum galleries will be open.
  • The planetarium will have shows on weekends with limited capacity.
  • The Junior Jet Club and Nunley’s Carousel will remain temporarily closed.  
  • Cafe - Open with limited light snacks and pre-packaged items. 
​​SAFETY COMES FIRST
  • Employees are required to wear face masks.
  • All museum visitors over 2 must wear a face mask while in the museum. Disposable face masks will be made available for anyone who does not have them. This is an NYS mandate; this simple action keeps our employees and fellow visitors safe, helping to stop the spread.
  • Certain jobs will require employees to use gloves, but gloves are available to all staff who choose to use them.
  • We have added signage about appropriate distancing, wearing masks, our cleaning procedures, and best practices in sanitation behavior.
IMPLEMENTING SOCIAL DISTANCING STANDARDS
  • We’re limiting the number of people allowed in our museum to 25% of our maximum capacity for the foreseeable future.
  • We’re introducing socially distanced queuing at our box office, entrances, café, and store registers.
  • Six feet is the standard, and staff is empowered to close exhibits if maintaining 6 feet of distance between people appears to not be possible.
  • We’ve installed plexiglass shields at all registers.
  • Directional floor markers and one-way flow through the museum and within galleries,
  • We are restricting group visits, guided tours, public programs, and special or private events limiting the number of participants until further notice as directed by the NYS Government
ENHANCING CLEANING PROCEDURES
  • We’re maintaining our enhanced COVID-19 cleaning procedures (including thorough, frequent cleanings of high-touch surface areas), in addition to our daily standard cleaning services.
  • Bathrooms are cleaned every hour on the hour during work hours and are deep-cleaned in the evenings after the building is closed to the public.
  • We have installed hand sanitizer stations at frequent intervals throughout the museum, galleries, and offices.
  • The museum is using the EPA recommended cleaner that is effective in killing SARS and COVID 19 for all of its sanitizing efforts.
STEPPING UP HEALTH SCREENINGS & POLICIES
  • We are requiring employees to do a health screening before each shift; checking for COVID symptoms; taking temperatures. Anyone with a fever of 100.4 or higher will be required to go home and we are encouraging staff to stay home if they feel unwell.

MUSEUM REOPENING FAQS

The Cradle of Aviation Museum closed on March 13, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We reopened to the public on July 9, 2020.

In preparation for reopening, museum staff worked diligently to provide a safe, secure, and enriching experience for our visitors and volunteers with health and safety a priority for all, including the use of masks and gloves, increased cleaning schedules, and following national, state, and local guidelines. 

The FAQs below should answer all of your questions when planning a visit to the museum, but please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

This is a temporary phase and we will continue to evaluate and monitor our policies daily based on feedback and direction from authorities. We look forward to your visit and continuing our mission of inspiring the next generation to dream big  

WHAT ARE YOUR OPERATING HOURS?
  • Thursday – Sunday 10 am-4 pm.
  • Museum galleries will be open.

HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE MUSEUM AT ONE TIME?

In order to adhere to the capacity restrictions set by NYS, we’re limiting the number of museum attendees to 25% of our maximum capacity for the foreseeable future.

WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON WEARING FACE MASKS? 

NYS mandates wearing a face mask in public. This simple action keeps our visitors and employees safe, helping to stop the spread. Museum employees are required to wear face masks. Museum visitors over 2 a will be required to wear face masks of their choice at all times while inside the museum facility or will be provided a disposable mask at the front desk. 

ARE YOU TAKING EMPLOYEE AND VOLUNTEER TEMPERATURES? 

We are requiring employees to do a health screening before each shift checking for COVID symptoms. All employees' and volunteers' temperatures will be taken and recorded on a daily basis, and if any have a temperature of 100.4 or higher they will be sent home and monitored. We will not be taking visitors’ temperatures. 

WHAT IF I AM SICK?

If you have a fever, are exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms, or have been exposed to anyone else with symptoms within a two-week period prior to your visit, we ask that you plan to come to the museum at a later date. If you experience any symptoms within two weeks of your museum visit, please let us know via our contact form.
