The History of the Flying Tigers of WWII

The American Volunteer Group, known as the “Flying Tigers” led by Colonel Claire Chennault, under contract to the Chinese Air Force, were recruited to fight the Japanese before the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, after which America formally declared war with Japan.

At that time the AVG, flying Curtiss P-40B War-Hawks, performed successfully and won the affection of the Chinese, who nicknamed them the “Flying Tigers.” They were much vaunted for their aerial successes against the tactics of Japan against China.

Flying Tigers were instrumental in defending the Japanese threat to China and South-East Asia.
