Celebrate the Hubble Telescope and 25 years of Discovery at the Cradle of Aviation Museum
Visitors to the Cradle of Aviation Museum will witness the wonders of the Universe during the 13th Annual Astronomy and Space Week, April 6th to April 10th. This year the Museum will celebrate the Hubble Space Telescope and the photographs it has taken of our Solar System, nebulas, star clusters, and more! To celebrate this event, there will be variety of hands-on family activities including discovery carts and make and take crafts. “Capturing the Universe”, a family activity, will be available for young visitors to learn about how Hubble explores space and even make their own “Hubble”! Each “Hubble” will have several filters to illustrate how the telescope is able to observe different colors in our Universe.
“The Hubble Telescope is one of the most important astronomical achievements of the last century,” says Kerri Kiker, Cradle of Aviation’s Planetarium Education Coordinator. “The thousands of pictures it has taken over the last 25 years have given us a better understanding of our Solar System and beyond.”
Annual Astronomy and Space Day
On Wednesday, April 8th, the Cradle will be holding its award winning, Astronomy and Space Day which brings together a number of astronomy clubs and space societies for a variety of special program and events. Visitors will be able to look at the current night sky in the Cradle’s Star Lab, get a glimpse of the Sun through solar telescopes, and hear astronomy lectures.
Activities run from 12:00pm-4:00pm daily and are free with museum admission.
