Both Cunningham and Haise were Lunar Module Pilots on their missions. Apollo 7 was an 11-day flight and the first manned flight test of the third generation US spacecraft. Apollo 13 was the seventh manned space flight and the third intended to go to the moon. An explosion onboard the spacecraft caused the lunar landing to be aborted and despite great hardships, the crew was returned safely to Earth six days after takeoff.
