Weekend Store Manager

Primarily responsible for the weekend operations of the Cradle of Aviation Museum store as directed by the store manager. The Weekend Store Manager is responsible for opening and closing the store, handling daily procedures, opening and closing out register drawers, providing outstanding customer service, supervising weekend interns, staff and or volunteers, daily cleaning of museum store displays, inventory items, and cashiering procedures. Must be trustworthy, reliable, team-focused and a good independent worker, punctual, and ready to have fun in a museum retail environment!

Essential Functions:

  • Carry keys and codes; open and close store, securing all doors, registers and safes
  • Oversee cleaning, maintenance, and weekend deliveries as needed
  • Perform and supervise daily procedures
  • Maintain a tidy and organized retail and counter space
  • Monitor and assist cashiers and other retail staff /volunteers/interns; assign daily duties
  • Monitor and fulfill any online orders that come in over the weekend
  • Train and support new team members as needed by store manager
  • Provide customer-focused service; welcome customers to the store and assist them with requests
  • Perform product demos, explain product features and highlight museum events and artifacts to customers
  • Collaborate with store manager to organize marketing and promotional campaigns and to coordinate staff

  • Assist with biannual inventories and routine spot checking with physical counts
  • Handle managerial tasks when the store manager is unavailable
  • Manage bank deposits, balance point of sale drawers and safe
  • Check and respond to email and phone messages
  • Manage paperwork and tend to other office tasks as directed by store manager
  • Ensure that all employees adhere to museum and store procedures and safety standards
  • Qualifications/Education:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two years Retail experience with proven track record for meeting sales goals
  • Consistent customer- and team-focused attitude
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; friendly and approachable
  • Basic computer proficiency including word, excel, and outlook
  • Familiarity with point of sale systems, must become knowledgeable of Point of Sale system -Altru, for
  • ordering, sales, inventory, opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain a well-groomed and professional demeanor
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time and lift objects up to 25 pounds
  • Adaptable; able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Weekends a must/ some holidays and evenings may be required for special events and museum happenings
  • as needed

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

The work environment for this position is in a typical store setting with periods of standing, walking, cashiering and administrative work sitting at a computer. This position requires climbing ladders for merchandising, and lifting of boxes (average 30lbs) for inventory and shipping etc.
