School Break Activities - Apollo Earthrise Celebration

Apollo 8, the first manned mission to the moon, entered the lunar orbit on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1968. That evening the astronauts snapped the first image of their view of Earth, dubbed Earthrise. This was the first time in history anyone has seen Earth from such a breathtaking view!

To celebrate this out-of-this-world achievement in art and space exploration, join us at the Cradle of Aviation Museum during the holiday school recess, December 26th through January 1st from 12 – 4 PM to learn about the Apollo missions, the astronauts, and this historic photograph. Once they’ve learned about our lunar neighbor, young visitors to the museum will have the chance to experiment with perspective and create their own “Earthrise” at the Family Activity station.

• Learn about the Apollo program
• Create your own "Earthrise" activity

Activities are from 12-4 pm and FREE with museum admission.

The museum is open from 9:30-5:00.
