Bloxels is a hands-on platform for kids to build\, collaborate\, and tell
stories through video game creation. Designed with blocks\, a universal el
ement of childhood play\, Bloxels cultivates imagination while encouraging
discovery and experimentation. With Bloxels\, you can realize your own vi
deo game ideas\, build and animate original characters\, develop villains\
, add in power-ups\, and more - all done directly with the Bloxels Game Bu
ilder Starter Kit and then activated with the FREE Bloxels Builder App and
your mobile device. Elementary Gifted/Enrichment Teacher and Bloxels amba
ssador\, Angela Abend and Oceanside Schools Project Extra 6th grade studen
ts will be on hand to demonstrate and help you start building games!\n\nGa
me of Drones - Workshop\nDrones are used in so many careers such as aerial
photography\, mapping\, and even the military. Come learn how drones can
be used safely to teach students coding with Tynker\, problem-solving\, s
patial skills\, and teamwork. Todd will demonstrate and share a variety o
f lessons and tools to have you and your students learning and flying in n
o time! Led by Todd Burleson\, 2016 School Librarian of the Year for Schoo
l Library Journal. Tynker is a complete learning system that teaches kids
to code. Kids begin experimenting with visual blocks\, then progress to Ja
vaScript and Python as they design games\, build apps\, and make incredibl
e projects.\n\nGreen Screens - Workshop\nTouching the Future with TouchCas
t. Laura Gardner\, Teacher/Librarian and 2016 School Librarian of the Year
Finalist for School Library Journal\, will lead an interactive workshop o
n how to use the free TouchCast iPad app\, an interactive video platform t
hat allows teachers to easily transform their classroom into a green scree
n studio. Students have created curricular projects including math raps\,
science news shows\, pubic service announcements\, and more. Students can
develop 21st century learning and oral presentation skills. \n\nThe Dream
Flag Project\nDesign and display your own dream flag. The Dream Flag Proj
ect invites students to dream and hope and wish. They capture their dream
poems in words and images to share with the world. The Dream Flag Project
is free and open to any adult-led group of students. Students from ages 3
to 20 have created Dream Flags through schools\, libraries\, hospitals and
other organizations. Inspired by the poetry of Langston Hughes and the tr
adition of Nepalese Buddhist prayer flags\, The Dream Flag Project® is an
annual poetry/art/community-connection project for students in Kindergarte
n to twelfth grade.\n\nMicrosoft: Hacking STEM\nPeople from the Microsoft
Hacking STEM initiative will be at SLIME to demonstrate hands-on\, teacher
-tested projects and activities that use everyday materials to make STEM a
ffordable\, accessible\, and fun for everyone. Demonstrating their Sensori
zed Glove and the Robotic Hand\, they will show how to build robotic model
s from cardboard and straws to understand the anatomy and biomechanics of
the human hand. Then\, they will show how to conduct trials visualizing da
ta in Excel to generate new ideas for improving it’s performance.\n\n“Make
a Difference” Charity Pitch\nFinalists from the “Make a Difference” Chari
ty Pitch Fest will make their pitches live at SLIME - winning pitch will h
ave a donation made in their name to their chosen charity courtesy of the
Suffolk School Library Media Association.\n\n\nSLIME is brought to you
