Hubble Engineer and Mars Scientist Traverse the Solar System - Celebrating Women's History Month

Monday, March 12, 2018
7:00 pm

Join us on Monday, March 12th at 7PM, in honor of Women’s History Month, as we host a special evening event highlighting two women who have achieved success in science and engineering. These out-of-this-world lecturers, Jade Kukula and Marie McBride, will talk about their careers and how they are contributing to the future of space exploration.

Jade Kukula, a graduate of Vaughn College located in Queens, dreamt of transforming her enthusiasm for space into a career. Today, she’s reached her goal. A Senior Systems Engineer and Mission Operations Flight Controller at Lockheed Martin, Kukula worked on the Hubble Space Telescope as part of the orbit-shift team conducted during Space Shuttle Mission 125. She holds a BA degree in Mechanical Engineering and a MA degree Systems Engineering. A life-long learner, Kukula is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from George Washington University.

Marie McBride is a science team member on the Mars Science Laboratory mission taking pictures with the Curiosity Rover from the surface of Mars and analyzing these images while working toward her Ph.D. at Purdue University. In addition to studying for her doctorate, McBride has a degree in Planetary Sciences and her graduate work focused on volcanic deposits on the surfaces of the Moon and Mars….and in fact, one day wants to be the first women to walk the lunar surface!

Kukula and McBride are both overjoyed to share their experiences from Hubble to the surface of Mars. Join us for this exciting evening exploring the mysteries of our Solar System and the keys to unlocking the future of space exploration. The event is also part of the Cradle’s multi-year program, “Countdown to Apollo at 50” that celebrates the Apollo program and looks to the future of space exploration.

Admission is free but space is limited so reservations are required! To reserve your seat please call 516-572-4066 (Mon-Fri, 10-4).

The Cradle of Aviation Museum is home to one of the largest collections of air and spacecraft in the world. The museum is also home to Long Island’s only Giant Screen Dome Theater and the Jet Blue Sky Theater Planetarium. The Cradle is located on Charles Lindbergh Blvd. on Museum Row in East Garden City.
