Astronomy and Space Week - Spring Recess

Join us this Spring Recess for our annual Astronomy and Space Week!

Do the Space Shuttle Shuffle! - Monday, April 25 through Sunday, May 1, activities from 12-4 pm
On the morning of April 12, 1981 NASA launched the Space Shuttle Columbia. This mission would define space exploration for a generation. To celebrate the history of the Space Shuttle and National Astronomy & Space Week, come join us and learn about how the Space Shuttle contributed to space exploration! After exploring the museum’s Space Gallery with authentic pieces from the Space Shuttle, young visitors are invited over to the Family Activity Area to create their very own make-and-take Space Shuttle Craft! Take a walk through the Solar System to see some of the missions NASA has sent off Earth and leave a message for future explorers. Finally, young visitors can learn the new dance phenomenon sweeping the Nation, our Space Shuttle Shuffle!

One World One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure and Junior Jet Setters double feature - 10:00 am (Mon-Fri)
Explore the night sky with your favorite friends from Sesame Street in One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure. And then our Educator will take Junior Jetsetters on an adventure where they will learn that the night sky is what led humans long ago to wonder what is beyond Earth. Spark your child's curiosity with this introduction to astronomy. Visitors will look at constellations, hear stories, and practice being an astronaut all while learning basic astronomy vocabulary.

Monday - Astrobiology, Tuesday - Rocks in Space, Wednesday - NASA Missions, Thursday - Star Stories, Friday - Black Holes, Saturday & Sunday - Solar System Tour.

Solar System Tour - 2:00 pm (Mon-Fri)
Our Solar System has everything you could want! Planets! Moons! Asteroids! And Comets! All swirling around our one and only star, the Sun. Visitors will learn all the different objects that populate the Solar System and feel the force that keeps worlds spinning. The Solar System Tour offers a sampling of Rocky Planets, Gas Giants, Asteroids, Comets and Meteors classes.
