Designing Atari's Coin-op Machines - Lecture, Book Signing and Arcade Play Time

Raiford Guins, Associate Professor of Culture and Technology at Stony Brook will give a talk on "Designing Atari's Coin-op Machines, 1972 - 1979" followed by a book signing of his book "Game After: A Cultural Study of Video Game Afterlife."

8:00-10:00 pm - Play Time in the Arcade Exhibit
Enjoy the Arcade Age exhibit and play over 50 classic arcade games.

Admission
$10 per person, $8 for museum members and students with valid ID, free for Arcade members.

Special Evening of Video Game History and Play Time at the Cradle of Aviation Museum.

Garden City, N.Y. – The Cradle of Aviation Museum will be hosting a special evening on Thursday, February 25th when Raiford Guins from Stony Brook University will lead a discussion focusing on Atari’s contributions to video game history. Professor Guins is an Associate Professor of Culture and Technology at Stony Brook and is the founding curator of the William A. Higinbotham Game Studies collection at Stony Brook University. The evening is a part of the Cradle’s new exhibit, “The Arcade Age” which provides visitors with a unique opportunity to learn about the history of the video arcade game craze as well as ample opportunity to play over 50 of the classic arcade games including, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Galaga, Centipede, Donkey Kong and many more.

In addition to the lecture, Professor Guins will also be signing copies of his book “Game After: A Cultural Study of Video Game Afterlife” after the lecture. “Game After” meticulously investigates the complex life cycles of video games, to show how their meanings, uses and values shift in an afterlife of disposal, ruins and remains, museums, archives and private collections.

The lecture will run from 7pm till 8pm, providing attendees with two hours of play time from 8pm till 10pm. Admission to this very special evening is $10.00 per person, $8.00 for Cradle museum members and students with a valid school ID. The event is free for Arcade members. Space is limited.
