Cradle of Aviation Museum Celebrates
“HUBBLE MANIA WEEK”
for the President’s Week Vacation Break

The Cradle of Aviation Museum will be celebrating everything HUBBLE for the President’s Vacation Break, February 13th – 21st. The Hubble Telescope has provided the world with some amazing images and a view deep into space. All week long visitors will be able participate in a variety of free family activities plus see some spectacular pictures that are being sent back to earth from the Hubble Telescope.

You’ll be able to construct your own Hubble Telescope model, create and play the Galactic Challenge Game and make your own spyglass telescope. In addition, the Cradle has a special HUBBLE Theater where you’ll be able to see current images that Hubble is transmitting to NASA.

Launched nearly 19 years ago, the Hubble telescope has served as our window to deep space. It has consistently transmitted images of everything from dying stars to parts of the galaxy we have never seen before. Last May, Long Island native Astronaut Mike Massimino was aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis for the final repair mission which should extend Hubble’s life for another ten years.

A trip to the Cradle during the President’s Week vacation also includes seeing some spectacular IMAX films on Long Island’s only giant screen IMAX dome theater. Films include Tom Hank’s “Magnificent Desolation, Walking on the Moon”, “Under the Sea”, “Grand Canyon Adventure” and “Space Station”. Plus you can take a ride on the beautifully restored Nunley’s Carousel.

Family Activites (Free with Museum Admission), Ongoing 12:00pm-4:00pm
• Kids can cut and color their way into space when they create a paper plate Earth and an orbiting Hubble telescope.
• Discovery carts give visitors the opportunity to speak with museum educators and learn about the gallery through hands on demos.

Robotics - Level 1 for grades 5-12

Students will learn the fundamental engineering and technical principles of building and programming robots to move and function autonomously (on their own) and with tethered control.

Students will work in small teams, (2-4 Students) which will require sharing and cooperation to accomplish various tasks. Through the use of sound, light, and touch sensors students will be able to program their robots to “see, hear, and perceive” their surroundings. Using these capabilities, students will put their newly acquired skills to work in exciting challenges such as obstacle courses, races, and contests of moving objects.

Students learn how to use the actions and reactions of the robots to strategically solve problems and puzzles and most importantly, have fun doing it!

10 Saturdays from 12:00-2:00 PM
