With Erik Lindbergh, grandson of Charles Lindbergh.
Friday, May 18th, 2007 at 7:30 PM

Join us on Friday, May 18th for a very special evening featuring Erik Lindbergh as he takes us on a journey through the past, present and future of flight. He will speak about the challenges he faced while retracing his grandfather’s epic 1927 transatlantic flight, and how that adventure helped to launch the X PRIZE Foundation and jump start the era of personal spaceflight. Erik will conclude his presentation by discussing how aviation and creative solutions form the basis of his next flight adventure.
The lecture is part of a weekend long celebration of the 80th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s flight from Roosevelt Field to Paris. Visitors to the museum will be able to get up close to the Cradle of Aviation’s own “Spirit of St. Louis” that was built to the same specifications as Lindbergh’s famous plane.

Charles Lindbergh - Aviation Pioneer and Humanitarian
Eighty years ago in 1927, a crowd of roughly 500 people thought they had witnessed a miracle as a young Charles Lindbergh steered his “ Spirit of St. Louis” down the dirt runway of Roosevelt Field on Long Island. Thirty three and a half hours later, the miracle happened when Lindbergh landed at Le Bourget Field outside of Paris, becoming the first man to fly solo across the Atlantic. This single event revolutionized aviation and our view of the world.
After his historic trans-Atlantic flight, Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh conceived a vision to improve the quality of life through the balance between technology and nature. The Lindbergh Foundation honors individuals for their contributions in aviation, exploration, conservation, sciences and the
humanities.
On May 18th, 19th and 20th, the Cradle of Aviation Museum will commemorate this historic moment in history with a series of events and activities that will bring focus to one of the crowning achievements in aviation and Long Island history. |
