Doing it the Wright Way to be the Theme of Thanksgiving Weekend at the Cradle of Aviation

Back

Orville and Wilbur Wright forever changed how we see the world with the first successful flight of an engine powered aircraft in 1903. The Cradle of Aviation will offer special programs throughout the Thanksgiving weekend honoring the Wright Brothers flight as the centennial anniversary of their historic accomplishment nears. Hands-on gallery activities illustrating the 1903 Wright Flyer plane and the technological innovations of the Wright Brothers will be offered throughout the day. In addition, The Cradle will host six workshops each day from Friday, November 28th through Sunday, November 30th in which families will be able to build model Wright Flyers together. The half hour sessions running from 12:30-3:00 p.m. each day will be limited in space and on a first come first serve basis. The program has been generously sponsored by the Curtiss-Wright Corporation.

“For many families, the days after Thanksgiving have been reduced to little more than trips to the mall or to the local Cineplex,” said Cradle of Aviation Chief Operating Officer, Claudia Oakes. “A program likes this offers families and their out of town visitors a unique and fun way to spend an afternoon not only building a model airplane but learning through hands on exercises about the accomplishments of Wilbur and Orville Wright.”

The one hundredth Anniversary of the Wright Brothers flight will be celebrated on December 17th and featured throughout the weekend in the Cradle’s IMAX theatre presentation of The Magic of Flight.
