"Celebrating Adventure: Charles A. Lindbergh, His Life and Legacy" Symposium Charles Lindbergh and his lifelong accomplishments will be the topics of discussion at the Lindbergh Symposium hosted by Hofstra University. Speakers include Reeve Lindbergh, daughter of Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh and President of the Lindbergh Foundations; Judith Schiff, Chief Research Archivist at Yale University where the Lindbergh papers are housed; Joshua Stoff, Curator of the Cradle of Aviation Museum; Brian Horrigan, Exhibit Curator at the Minnesota Historical Society; and Nova Hall, grandson of Donald Hall, designer of the Spirit of St. Louis. | 6:30 - 10:30 pm | 2002 Lindbergh Award Event honoring Dr. Thomas E. Lovejoy The evening begins with a reception and silent auction the night before the grand opening of the new Cradle of Aviation Museum. The museum features Charles Lindbergh's original Jenny airplane and a Spirit of St. Louis sistership in the special Lindbergh exhibit. Dinner will be served in the atrium of the museum beneath several spectacular airplanes that hang overhead. Dr. Lovejoy, Senior Advisor to the president of the United Nations Foundation and Chief Biodiversity Advisor to the President of the World Bank, will accept the 25th annual Lindbergh Award and will address the audience. A 25th anniversary reunion of our past Lindbergh Award recipients is planned with a few of our Awardees having already confirmed their attendance. Please note if you have any dietary restrictions. Long Island Tour A full day of area attractions is planned iwth stops at Sands Point Preserve, Old Westbury Gardens, the American Air Power Museum, and a guided tour of Garden City by local historian, John, Kordes highlighting places where Lindbergh would have been in 1927. Sands Point Preserve is home to Falaise, the grand mansion built for Harry Guggenheim in 1923. In French Normandy style, it is the place where Lindbergh wrote the book "We." Old Westbury Gardens is a Georgian estate built by financier-sportsman John S. Phipps in 1906, wich sits on 150 acres of beautiful gardens. The Airpower Museum houses a squadron of warbirds, many of which are still operational. Cost: $79/person includes tour, escort, buffet luncheon (fresh fruit, assorted wraps and sandwiches, pasta salads) at Old Westbury Gardens, cold beverages, all useum fees, and transportation to and from the Garden City Hotel. Spirit of St. Louis Takes-off A re-enactment of Lindbergh's take-off is planned for 7:52 am from Republic Field using a Spirit of St. Louis reproduction.
