Biotechnology is, “technology based on biology to develop technologies and products that help improve our lives and the health of our planet.” (Greenwood, 2016)

Biotech Day is an exciting opportunity, open to all educators and college level students across Long Island, which aims to integrate academic curriculum with biotechnology. Presenters will focus on the growing field of biotechnology, technology in medicine, and explore how the human body responds to its environment.

To celebrate biotech and its real world applications, the museum is honored to host Chad Bouton, Vice President, Advanced Engineering at Feinstein Institute for Medical Research as our closing keynote address. Mr. Bouton has an extensive history of working in the bioelectric medicine field. Some of his accomplishments include: developing cancer detection algorithms to help surgeons pinpoint and remove tumors more effectively, developing neural decoding methods that allowed the first paralyzed person with a brain implant to move again with their own thoughts, and was named Inventor of the Year and Distinguished Inventor by Battelle. Recognized by CBS News for his advancements in this field, Mr. Bouton illustrates how technology can impact our lives for a better future.

All presentations and activities will incorporate hands-on activities and will be aligned with New York State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.
