Fall 2011

Dear Educator:

Get your school year off to a flying start and bring your class for a visit to the Cradle of Aviation Museum! Here you can find educational programs, Sky Theater Giant Screen Dome movies, free professional development for teachers and much more!

Plan your visit during our off-peak periods for special discounts!

  • October - save $2.00 per student on a museum ticket when combined with any Sky Theater ticket purchase.
  • December and January - receive a free museum class when you purchase a museum ticket.

This year we’ve added a new educational program, funded by the National Grid Foundation, entitled Renewable Energy, Turbo to Hydro: students will explore many different types of renewable energies and fuels, through hands on demonstrations and inquiry questioning including solar, geothermal and biomass.

We have many exciting happenings! The Museum is continuing to grow and provide the most state of the art resources and information for the community and our schools to enjoy. This year we welcome the Uniondale School District to join the innovative Westbury Magnet Academy at the museum. The museum academies provide students with a physics first approach and present classes in science, math, technology and history utilizing exhibits and artifacts.

Additionally, the museum is gearing up for its latest addition – a digital planetarium! Opening in 2012, this new technology will treat your students to realistic close-up views of Earth, star fields and planets, taking them on an exhilarating flight through a virtual re-creation of our universe. With access to data from NASA and the European Space Agency, and a database of more than two billion stars developed by the Museum of Natural History, our theater will take students on a virtual tour of the universe as never seen before!!

We wish you an excellent start to the 2011-2012 school year and we look forward to seeing you and your students!
