BOCES JASON - Feb 6th 9:30-2pm
This year’s Jason Theme is Investigating Forces and Motion in our Universe entitled “Terminal Velocity”. Students will explore the science of measurement, motion, forces, and simple and complex machines in our universe through hands on stations at 3 loops held at 10am, 11am, and 12pm.
BOCES Kids Conference - Feb 7th, 8th, 9th 10am-2pm
These conferences provide an opportunity for students to meet specialists and practitioners in unusual fields or those who provide an in-depth look at particular aspects of academic subjects. Students choose workshops based on their own interests and investigate new ideas in fresh, hands-on ways. Workshops are given at 11am & 12:30pm Feb 7-8th is Aviation & Conservation (grades 3-6) while Feb 9th is a STEAM day for High School.
Syosset PTA Night - Feb 10th 6pm-10pm
This event is for the Syosset school district only, Museum staff will be promoting STEM through a series of activities including space suit design and rocket demos.
Rube Goldberg Competition - Feb 11th 9-2pm
This annual competition is for HS students to engineer a wacky contraption that completes a task which will win them national placements. This years task is inflate a balloon and pop it.
Black History Month Event - Feb 13th 11-12pm
Astronaut Leland Melvin will speak with students via Skype in the museums theater discussing his experiences as an African American in the space program. Q & A will be held at 12pm-1pm.

Kid Wind Teacher Workshops - Feb 29th 9:30-12:30pm & 3:30-6:30pm
The Kid Wind PD will provide the training and kits for teachers to have their students participate in one of the National Kid Wind challenges. Funded by National Grid Foundation
Winter Recess - Feb 20th- 24th 12pm-4pm
Event Horizon - Escaping a Black Hole. Educators will provide a variety of activities promoting NASA new mission NuStar which studies black holes. Workshop and activities will be held M- Fri free with museum admission, open to the general public.

TREE Professional Development Elementary - March 1st 12-2pm
Funded for the second year by the National Grid Foundation, Teaching Renewable Energy Education – TREE PD will give teachers the training on how to incorporate renewable energy science into the classroom. Funded by National Grid Foundation
Academy Maglev Competition - March 5th 8am- 12pm
Integrated academy teams will compete in this competition for best engineered magnetic levitation vehicle. This years competition is a beta test based on Brookhaven NL model which we hope to be a sister site next year for the event.
Women’s History Month Student Q & A - March 9th 10:30-11:30am
Following a breakfast for the female speakers students will have the opportunity to do a Q & A with the panel consisting of Astronaut Marsha Ivins, VP Northrop Grumman Patricia McMahon, President/Owner GSE Dynamics Inc Anne Shybunko, Jet Blue Pilot Linda Sollars & CEO Alkin Ind Kim Senior.
Girl Scouts Breath Night With Astronaut - March 9th 6pm-9:30pm
This is a series of “science nights” coordinated by the Girl Scouts and the Cradle. 100 Girl Scouts will be able to go to workshops and stations. Registration is required through Nassau County Girls Scouts website.
BOCES Conservation Education Day - March 12th 9:30-2pm
Here, there will be presentations by different organizations for groups of 5th grade students. Presentations focus on topics related to the environment and conservation of Long Island habitats.
The Long Island Science and Engineering Fair - March 19th 7am-5pm
The Long Island Science and Engineering Fair has become an extremely successful and professional event. More than 50 schools participated in past years involving approximately 450 students. Sixteen individual Finalists and eight Finalist teams were selected to attend the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Arizona. This event is Round 2 of the fair with awards to follow.
4th Annual Egg Drop Competition - March 22nd 10am-1pm
Students have to design a device to protect an egg from cracking after being dropped from several feet in the air. This competition is held for grades 3-8. Download Flyer, Download Rules.
Junior Solar Sprint - Professional Development - March 28th 9- 1pm
Junior Solar Sprint is a design engineering challenge where students in 5-8th grade design and create model solar electric race cars, this workshop will walk teachers through the process of classroom content and car construction for students to participate in the competition. Workshop is free for teachers.
Uniondale Science Fair - March 29th 6:30-9:30pm
100 Uniondale students will display their science projects this night with judges and family in attendance. The Museum will also provide starlab programs for the guest to get a first hand experience at fun science.
APRIL
PTA Showcase - April 2nd 8am-3:30pm
Nassau Region PTA is a geographical division of New York State PTA representing over 97,000 members. Members include parents, teachers, students, school board members, administrators and others interested in working for the well-being of children and youth, through parent education and child advocacy. This event will showcase the arts in education through program offerings of various organizations.
Spring Recess - April 9-13 12-4pm
Shadows of the Sun - Celebrating our closest star. Various activities will be held this break focusing all on the power of the sun and how it fuels earth. Workshops and activities will be held M-Fr free with museum admission.
10th Annual Astronomy and Space Day - April 11th 12-2pm
Celebrating a decade of astronomy and space days the museum will host several activities in partnership with the AOS (Amateur Observers' Society of New York) including solar telescopes, family workshops, lectures and more. Free with museum admission.
Long Island STEM Fair & Expo - April 23rd
Open to all Long Island schools; the purpose of this event will be to expose as many 10th- 12th grade students to the various careers and applications in STEM disciplines. Exhibitors, professionals and local colleges will feature their careers, conduct hands-on demonstrations or showcase real world applications of STEM.
